SDG Movie Making - 40 minutes

Intro: In 2015, all United Nations Member States adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as a universal call to action to end hunger, protect the planet, and ensure that all people experience peace and prosperity by 2030. There are 17 SDG goals. These goals are the blueprint for everyone to create a better and more sustainable future.

Activity:

1) Watch this SDG video.

2) Choose one of the 17 SDG goals.

3) Get into groups of three and film a 2-3 minute movie on your chosen SDG goal. Make sure it includes ways we can live a more healthy/sustainable lifestyle and why it's of such importance.

Why Do People Make Sustainable Films? - Grades 5-9 (10 minutes)

Intro: Sustainable filmmaking is described as filmmaking that is concerned with environmental, economic, and social issues. In film production, sustainability means making socially and environmentally responsible decisions during pre-production and production. It incorporates sustainable development concepts into the filmmaking process and is best done in a cohesive manner with coordination and cooperation from all departments and/or participants.

Activity:

1) Watch this SDG video.

2) Ask yourself: For what reason do you think filmmakers produce sustainable films?

Sustainable Films Research!- Grades 5-8 (15-20 minutes)

Intro: Sustainable filmmaking is described as filmmaking that is concerned with environmental, economic, and social issues. In film production, sustainability means making socially and environmentally responsible decisions during pre-production and production. It incorporates sustainable development concepts into the filmmaking process and is best done in a cohesive manner with coordination and cooperation from all departments and/or participants.

Activity:

1) There are many different types of sustainable films. Create a PowerPoint on google slides and research 5 of your choice that you find interesting. Here is a link to perhaps stimulate ideas:)

2) When doing the research, make a note of the film's theme and how it relates to the SDGs.

2) Share your findings in breakout rooms of 3-4 people.

Design a sustainable house!

Intro: Students can work independently or collaborate to design a sustainable home or eco-town! Designers can consider their real-life context (such as infrastructure in the Philippines) to brainstorm ways to improve or develop areas to be more sustainable and green.

Activity:

1) Start an independent or collaborative Minecraft world (or similar online building platforms)

2) Brainstorm
